This is it. Finally, I managed to requsition this new
vehicle for my Adventure Team. Here, Hiro takes the new, modern version
of the old six-wheeled ATV out for a test-run. This one was shipped from
England, courtesy of Action Man where he called it the Jungle Explorer.
|
Hiro demonstrates the six-wheel turn, which more or
less spins the ATV on the spot.
|
Hiro steps out of the vehicle. It's a tight squeeze
for only one person, but the vehicle is multi-purpose, and incredibly
useful for field missions.
|
Hiro checks out the rear of the vehicle. You'll note
that the deck of the ATV is rather busy. Festooned with gear, pipes and
panels, it is not as smooth and simple as the old ATV from the 1960s.
|
The front of the vehicle features a huge front-aimed
spotlight, (the rectangular housing with the AT logo on it) a winch for
pulling, and two lower-mounted headlights.
|
The controls are less like the original ATV and more like the ATV Buggy. On the right is a throttle that is simple in operation. Push forward for forward. Pull back for reverse. The joystick on the left steers the vehicle. Lean it left for left, right for right, rotate it left for a left spin, and rotate it right for a spin right. The gauges you see include the obvious, fuel, speed, etc, but also a global map computer and communications equipment. |
The AT has been waiting for this vehicle for a very
long time. Hiro is intent on putting it through its thorough paces.
|
This is an Action Man ATV from the early 1990s I believe. I got it on eBay from Australia. I've been trying to get one of these for my Adventure Team for at least four years now, and I finally got one. It's kind of sad that the winch is simply moulded on. It would make a nice project to put in functioning lights. As it is, like most Action Man vehicles, the headlights and taillights are simply stickers, which are easily ruined. Still, this is a much-anticipated and much-appreciated addition to the Adventure Team motor pool!
