Here, the Commander is enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. The "Thing" is really a German WWII Kubelwagen painted yellow. It differs from a genuine "Thing" in many ways, but mostly, the look is there. The real "Thing" has a much larger hood that doesn't take such a sharp angle downward. The headlights were in the chassis, instead of rising above it.
But the Commander is quite happy with his Kubelwagen.
This one was spray-painted yellow under less than ideal conditions, so the paint coverage could be better. The AT logo on the spare hub-cap was hand-painted.

Here, while he's in contact with base about some unusual animal sightings, we can see the solid lines of the Thing and the spare tire up front. |

The Adventure Team's Thing has no cover, which spells trouble during rain, but the Adventure Team knows how to rough it. A shovel is conveniently placed for easy use. |

As you can see, the Thing makes an excellent addition to the Adventure Team motor pool. |
