Computer Input

The U.W.S. Ceres is run by a computer system which generally speaks its output. Its input, however, is usually done by typing on a keypad, but there are exceptions.

When you see a computer monitor it is usually accompanied by a keypad. The monitor will usually tell you the commands to type on the keypad to operate certain functions.

The format is:
>TYPE XXX ON KEYPAD, or >TYPE XXX, or >XXX - either or these should work.

Some keypads take codes that aren't obvious. These commands include those major ship commands that are to be used only in dire emergencies.

Certain commands, once input on a keypad, must be confirmed vocally to the computer. The computer will recognize your voice and complete the command only after you've done this. This prevents unauthorized personnel from issuing those dire commands.

To confirm a command, simply do what the computer tells you, which normally means:
>CONFIRM XXX, where XXX is the name of the command you've input.

The Navigation Computer is very specifically different from other input stations. To give the NavCon a command, you must use the format:
>NAVCON, XXX, where XXX is the command.

To give the NavCon course coordinates you must do so thusly:
>NAVCON, XCOORD IS XXX, where XXX is a number
>NAVCON, YCOORD IS XXX
>NAVCON, ZCOORD IS XXX
>NAVCON, CONFIRM COURSE

These can be shortened using the command-separating comma, like so: >NAVCON, XCOORD IS XXX, YCOORD IS XXX, ZCOORD IS XXX, CONFIRM COURSE, all in one line if you like.

Some doors are sealed with a palm identification pads. Touching those pads will give you access.

On the bridge you can operate the ship's laser cannons by using the command >TARGET XXX, or >SHOOT XXX, where XXX is the item you're trying to shoot.
