Club Exclusive Foreign Adventurer

Seventh in the GI Joe Collectors' Club Exclusive Adventure Team Reproductions!

The Announcement

It was announced on February 22, 2006 that the GI Joe Collectors' Club exclusive "freebie" figure (an incentive for joining the club) this year will be a wonderful new figure which does something that Hasbro never did during the run of the Adventure Team - flock the foreign Joe head.

The basic figure (included with membership if you renewed before March 15, 2006) includes black shorts and white tank top with AT logo.

To quote the club:

The 12” figure is a totally new direction for the club and we are hoping this concept will provide you with exciting new items for years to come. We are calling this year’s totally new figure the “Foreign Adventurer”. This first time figure will come with a timeless body and a flocked foreign head (same head sculpt as used in the Battle of Kursk convention set). He will be dressed in a tank top and shorts and have the same style flock as the Land, Sea and Air Adventurers.

I was giddy with excitement.

The Headsculpt

This head has never been flocked by Hasbro, and now the Club has done it, taking the advice of many fans who thought it would be a good idea.

And here is the final result.

The Gear

The basic figure (free with membership) has only the shorts and tank top.

However, it has also been announced that members will be able to purchase an accessory pack with the Foreign Adventurer for $25.00. (And extra figures with accessory pack will cost $35.00 plus shipping)

The figure, wearing the accessory pack, is pictured below:

Front with whole outfit including AT Jacket
Front with jumpsuit without AT jacket

That's a black jumpsuit with AT logo, brown shoulder-holster and pistol, brown boots (reminiscent of the "Black Widow Rendezvous" classic AT set) with metal dog-tag (seen below). Also, a black leather jacket with AT logo!

Ladies and gentlemen: I introduce to you my new AT Team's standard uniform!!! I'm going to have to get a few of those leather jackets!

This figure, like all AT Club Exclusives to date, does not have Kung Fu Grip, but the standard early AT nose-picker hands.

Assessment

Being a fairly selfish person, this is exactly the direction I wanted to see the Collectors' Club going. In the past few years they handed out a clear figure each time we re-upped with the club. I now have a bunch of clear figures, and I really like them. We got a Super-Articulated figure one year, with clear gear; then we got a 40th Anniversary clear Joe; then we got a GI Jane clear figure. And while I do love the clear figures (I just bought two more of the SA clear Joes) I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, so I hoped the Club would move on to something else.

And Adventure Team is the way I was hoping. And this is a fantastic start.

Please note that this isn't even the Club AT Convention Exclusive like the Counter-Culture Joe or the Aged Adventurer. This is the freebie for godsake! (Well, you do have to purchase the accessory pack, but that's well worth it!) And it's a home-run right out of the park and into the stratosphere! I can still see the vapor trail!

With a straight-forward shorts and tank-top, the freebie figure is a great value just for re-joining the club (and $20.00 for extra figure) but with the accessory pack, with the black jumpsuit and leather jacket!??!?! That's as good as a major Club Exclusive.

And this one was concepted by Lanny Lathem, a fellow collector, and a guy I consider a friend, even though I haven't met him yet. When we meet, Lanny, you get a huge hand-shake for this one.

Yes. This figure goes to eleven!
