This whole scene was not part of the original storyboard. But as we were shooting, we realized we had all these Marines and no combat scene planned, so we added it on the fly This is dialogue between Hudson and Vasquez in the film, "Aliens". This light above the door comes from a Burger King Frankenstein toy. The lab table has a green LED at the head, meant to light up the translucent Frankenstein's Monster when he lies on the lab table. I cut it out and glued it into a square hole I cut into the foam-core door frame. Here, I have added a Photoshop flare. Typical line from Aliens. This is dialogue between Hudson and Vasquez in the film, "Aliens" This is the GI Joe Navajo Code-Talker figure, dressed in another Hicks uniform supplied by Justin Wilson. This is a GI Joe Navy Football figure, complete with dark marks under his eye, dressed in another Hicks uniform supplied by Jeff Griffin. This is another GI Joe figure, dressed in a Hicks uniform supplied by Jeff Griffin. This door, made from foam core is simply cut into two pieces, taped in either the open or closed position. Here it is open. Behind is an office divider, serving as the back wall. This is the Silent Strike GI Joe 2010 figure with the head of the GI Joe Medal of Honor Francis Currey figure. He uses a repainted version of the chest armor for Hicks. He's wearing camo army pants which gives him a slight variation on the same uniform the rest of the Marines are wearing. He carries a heavy duty gun like Vasquez. This is a Classic Collection GI Joe with the head of Corporal Hicks, wearing the Marine outfit that came with the "Hicks vs. Aliens" toy set. Click here to see a larger picture of the set in its box. A red-haired GI Jane Helicopter Pilot stars as Vasquez. If I had had a black-haired version, I would have used that instead, as Vasquez is clearly Hispanic, and not a red-head.

But as we were shooting, we realized we had all these Marines and no combat scene planned, so we added it on the fly The Navajo Code Talker GI Joe is one of a small number of talking GI Joes. This one is set to replay several Navajo code phrases, each of which is spelled out on the box. This is one of those. This one translates to "Request Tank Support". Hudson makes reference to the Navajo Code Talker here. This is an Alien Chest Buster from one of the Aliens: Resurrection figures. I had hoped the camera's quality would have captured these details better. This is the GI Joe Silent Strike figure. Note that the helmet has a visor for Night Vision that slips down over the eyes. The lit barrel of Vasquez's gun is a function of the toy itself. Hold down the silver button and the barrel lights up brilliant red. The priming flare was added in Photoshop.

Here, we see the scanner alive with aliens. I originally created this image in Corel Draw, edited it in Photoshop and turned it into an animated GIF file using Gif Construction Set.

But as we were shooting, we realized we had all these Marines and no combat scene planned, so we added it on the fly The lens flare and laser beam were added in Photoshop, and the barrel's light is an enhanced image of the actual lit barrel. I wasn't happy with this, as it appears almost as if the beam is coming from the alien's head, and not the other way around. This Alien chest buster came from an Aliens: Resurrection figure. This is the large alien figure that came in the Predator vs. Alien toy set.

This is a 1:6 scale shotgun shell. I made about a dozen or so of them for this shoot, to strew around the floor during combat. They are made from red hollow straws or coffee stirs, with copper paint on one end. Sadly, the quality of the camera didn't allow you to see them very well. This is an inside joke. Hudson is heard saying "Game over, man! Game over!" We think he's talking about losing the battle with the mutated aliens, but in fact he's playing a computer game. The best part of the joke is that this is a screenshot from Asheron's Call, the game I work on, and it is a persistent world game. There is no "GAME OVER". This is the arm from the alien that came in the Hicks vs. Aliens toy. The laptop is a highly detailed 1:6 scaled item that was a fridge magnet. It had a cheesy computer screen, and a bulky sound chip box that said "You've got mail" when you pushed a red button. I removed the chip box and put a bottom on it, and it makes the perfect laptop. Each key is correctly labelled!

Previous Page | Next Page Sconces are made of plastic easter-eggs, the rounded half, cut in half, painted silver inside, green outside. The silver is meant to diffuse light upward. GENETRIX - just a random name to imply genetic research. Though the picture doesn't show it, the X is a double helix of atomic spheres. Light flare looks like something from Photoshop or Lightwave, but is actually how it appeared. Behind the sconce is a TapLight light. The moulding is plastic wall moulding painted semi-matte black. Details on its construction can be found on the "Behind the Scenes" page. Click here to see how it was constructed. This is a model of the Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens. A better camera would have revealed that there are about three aliens in this jumble, killing off all the Marines besides Hudson, Vasquez and Hicks. A line by Hicks in "Aliens". This alien comes from a Alien vs. Predator 1:6 scale set. He's not very well articulated, but looks menacing enough. This is the alien that came supplied with Hicks in the Hicks vs. Aliens set.
