This is the chair that comes with the GI
Joe Mobile Support Vehicle, otherwise known as the ATV
II. The vehicle comes with three such chairs. One is
loose, and sits atop a cross-sectioned base like the one
shown here. But there are two other perfectly serviceable seats that Joe can use in board meetings. They are in the cab section, and are removable. The problem is they don't have bases. And finding extras of these bases is next to impossible. I have no idea why Hasbro couldn't just ship two more bases with the vehicle in the first place. Anyway, for those who want to set up these as boardroom chairs for GI Joe HQ meetings, Frank May suggested using Cotswold Y- Joe stands, with some adaptation. I had no Cotswold stands available, so I popped down to the local WalMart, where they had three different types of stand. Two were useless, but one was ideal. |

I didn't take a pic of the before
stand, but it was taller, and had a metal Y-shape coming
from the cylinder. Note that in this picture, I cut down the white cylinder of the stand with a hacksaw, and inserted a piece of wooden dowel that fits perfectly insde the cylinder. Unfortunately, however, the dowel was just a shade too large to fit into the chair's base. So a little sanding, and it was small enough to fit. |

Here is the new stand-base sitting next
to the original base. I think one is as nice looking as
the other, and the round metal stand is much more stable
than the flimsy plastic cross-fitted base. I think some paint may be in order, though, as the white may be just too much. Silver or black, perhaps. Or hey, red! I'll let you know what that looks like when I've finished. Luckily I have four of these chairs, not just three, so they will be featured in a future AT HQ photo story coming your way before February. Sadly, I only found one of these stands at WalMart, so I have to get three more. |

A little matte black spray paint makes
all the difference. Here, the Commander relaxes in the new chair, telling Jane all about how he got the idea in the first place. But the Commander's always been a bit of a storyteller. Jane knows it was all someone else's idea, and that he just took it and went with it. |
