This scene (and all exteriors) was shot outside Turbine's offices at the time, at 350 University Avenue, Westwood, MA X-Files-like locator text. This is the back section of the amazing Mobile Support Vehicle, the mobile GI Joe Headquarters. This awesome toy was produced in the 1970s and was all any kid ever needed for months of adventure with the GI Joe Adventure Team. It had a working sattelite launcher, moving radar antenna and search light, opening panels, a ladder, maps, even a chair. My AT Commander is the GI Joe Timeless Collection General Robert E. Lee figure, dressed in a Spy Island black sweater and tan pants. This is a 1977 Action Man Air Adventurer, wearing the black Turbo Copter from the Black Widow Rendezvous set. He was suspended by string by Sean Dickinson. The string was later removed using Photoshop. This is the 21st Century Toys' Black Ops Little Bird helicopter. I stuck Adventure Team logos on it, and voila! The new AT stealth helicopter! This is an African American Timeless Collection GI Joe wearing the yellow jumpsuit from the Adventure Team set, Photo Recon. He's driving a Small Soldiers Ground Assault Vehicle, which is a repurposed and oddly colored version of the Action Man Lunar Rover from around 1995. Click here to see a page comparing this one with the original.

I was originally going to declare the sweep occurring in Area 51, but wanted to make sure people didn't associate this with the famed Nevada covert military base. But I still wanted the reference. This is the cab section of the awesome Mobile Support Vehicle, also called the AT II.

The rear of the open Mobile Support Vehicle shows the communications panel which was just cardboard stuck to the sliding door section. The Commander's dialogue is strict, but you have to be to command such a large and powerful organization. Note the nautical reference, indicating the Commander's background may have been in a naval area. My AT Commander is the GI Joe Timeless Collection General Robert E. Lee figure, dressed in a Spy Island black sweater and tan pants.

This scene (and all exteriors) was shot outside Turbine's offices at the time, at 350 University Avenue, Westwood, MA. Here is our walkway This is a Timeless Collection GI Joe, dressed in a "Then" outfit from the Then and Now set. He sports a vintage AT dogtag. I believe this head was recently re-flocked, as the hair looks too new, but the face looks too old. This is a 1977 Action Man Air Adventurer, wearing the black Turbo Copter from the Black Widow Rendezvous set. This is a WWII GI Joe wearing an "Adventures Of" White Tiger outfit. This is the GI Joe Nissei soldier figure dressed in Hawk River garb. This is a Barbie laptop. I wanted to have a different computer for the Commander rather than using the one Hudson was already seen using. This figure is an ERTL Top Cop figure with an Eagle Eye GI Joe head attached. He's wearing a red jumpsuit from the Volcano Jumper set. My AT Commander is the GI Joe Timeless Collection General Robert E. Lee figure, dressed in a Spy Island black sweater and tan pants. This is a Hawk River Joe, one of the first of the modern "Adventures Of GI Joe" sets, featuring for the first time in ages, fuzzy hair. This is my vintage Sea Adventurer, dressed in the blue jumpsuit from the Attack at Vulture Pass set. This is my only Vintage Adventure Team figure. This is the African American version of GI Jane. She's wearing a Hawk River jumpsuit, with the Smoke Jumper harness and gear. I created the AT stickers for these figures with my printer. They are attached with poster gum. This is an Adventures Of GI Joe figure, wearing a black lycra jumpsuit, and a black rubber Action Man wet-suit jacket. The AT logo is a sticker I printed on my printer. This is a blonde Timeless Collection GI Joe wearing what may be the jumpsuit from Shocking Escape set. This is a great Barbie Porche Boxster convertible. Push a button, and the top goes up. Using yellow electrical tape, I laid out a miniatur parking lot out in the front of the Turbine offices. These lines remained there for months, and people often speculated it was for skateboard parking or something. Eventually the owners retarred the walk, and they pulled the tape up. But it was the source of some good laughs for quite some time.

The purpose of these lines of dialogue is to show the rashness and arrogance of the modern Adventure Team members, while the seasoned pros refuse to utter such intollerant stuff, deferring to the Commander's wisdom. I wanted to show a slight generation gap between the old and new members of the team. The yellow version is featured in one of the View Master reels from 1974. Click here to see the View Master Reels.

You can see the quality of this shot is different from the rest on this page. That's because the primary camera I used for this shoot was not as good as I had hoped. It was basically a video camera with a way to transfer the video to a computer image. So I reshot this entire exterior sequence using another digital camera. That one had its problems too, the worst being sharpness, and the inability to do close-up work. This shot required more close-up work than the cheap camera could do, so I stuck with the original for this shot. The bizarre and inexplicable hand pose of the vintage GI Joe is accurately reproduced in this Timeless Collection General Robert E. Lee figure. Yet its purpose is still a mystery. It certainly didn't allow it to grip gear well. Perhaps this was the reason... Here, the Commander sports a black turtleneck from the Mission to Spy Island set. However if I were to shoot this today, he would surely sport one of my mother's sweaters. Click the link to see her handiwork. This line provided the perfect use for the weird GI Joe right-hand pose. The General Robert E. Lee head sculpt for GI Joe is one of the nicest ever created. It is highly expressive, and depending on angle and body language can express many moods. This is a Timeless Classic GI Joe wearing the Black Widow Rendezvous outfit, and black helicopter helmet. He can be seen in the first shot on this page standing near the black helicopter This is my vintage Sea Adventurer, sporting his huge, oversized vintage Adventure Team dogtag. I think the tag cost me at least $5.00 alone.

The image in the laptop is of AC Explorer, a third-party Asheron's Call tool for mapping the island of Dereth, where the game takes place. One day I came to the office and found either my yellow tape removed and tarred over, or left there and tarred over. In either case, it was clearly still visible after the tar coating went on. This is a Timeless Classic GI Joe wearing the Black Widow Rendezvous outfit, and black helicopter helmet. This is an African American Timeless Collection GI Joe wearing the yellow jumpsuit from the Adventure Team set, Photo Recon. I found the Timeless Classic Robert E. Lee figure at WalMart. Originally I believe it sold for $30.00, but it remained unsold, until it was marked $20.00. At the time I had little cash, so I passed. Then I decided to scan it, and it turned out to cost $10.00 so I snapped it up. This is my vintage Sea Adventurer, dressed in the blue jumpsuit from the Attack at Vulture Pass set. This is my only Vintage Adventure Team figure. At a local GI Joe group meeting, I purchased this flocked, Eagle Eye Action Man head, and asked the Sandbox for an ERTL Top Cop body to put it on. The result was referred to in another story, called "The Arrival." Click to see that story. This is a blonde Timeless Collection GI Joe wearing what may be the jumpsuit from Shocking Escape set. I wanted my Adventure Team to be as racially diverse as possible, so this WWII Nissei Japanese Soldier figure fit in perfectly for the job. This is Professor Frink (named after the Simpsons character) and he is the hero of our story, though at this point he know as much of his future as a tea leaf knows the history of the East India Company. Of the whole team here, I like this Joe the best. He has red flocked hair, and a kick-ass outfit. This vintage GI Joe cost $65.00 and is the most I've paid for a single figure. At a GI Joe meeting, I purchased this reflocked vintage Land Adventurer head, and put it on a Timeless Classic body. This is the MSV (Mobile Support Vehicle) attached, with radar and search light stowed, and all panels closed. This is a ReSaurus Mach 5 from Speed Racer. It's much too small to be 1:6 scale, but I thought I'd throw it in in the distance where forced perspective would make it look a little larger. Click here to read my review of this toy. The blonde Adventures Of GI Joe figure has the same face sculpt as the figure on his right. But as with GI Joes in the past, the hair color makes it seem as if they have completely different personalities. The Barbie Porche Boxster was a steal. I got it at Toys R Us's web site before they merged with Amazon. Cost $10.00.

Previous Page | Next Page Sconces are made of plastic easter-eggs, the rounded half, cut in half, painted silver inside, green outside. The silver is meant to diffuse light upward. GENETRIX - just a random name to imply genetic research. Though the picture doesn't show it, the X is a double helix of atomic spheres. Light flare looks like something from Photoshop or Lightwave, but is actually how it appeared. Behind the sconce is a TapLight light. The moulding is plastic wall moulding painted semi-matte black. Details on its construction can be found on the "Behind the Scenes" page. Click here to see how it was constructed. This is a model of the Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens. It was part of a "Hicks vs. Aliens" 12" figure set produced by Kenner around 1997. This is a cheap pun, no question about it. Chip Hazard and two robed monk-like figures... Chip and the Monks... yeah, cheap... This MSV came with its original sticker. You can see it's slightly peeled, and faded, but it is worth more with its original sticker than with a reproduction that looks shiny and new. These are two 12" figures from Star Wars, Episode I - The Phantom Menace. This is Qui Gon Jinn and his padawan learner, Obi Wan Kenobi. This is a 12" version of Chip Hazard from Small Soldiers. This is the first 12" figure I owned since my original GI Joe collection when I was around 10 years old. This is the fantastic 21st Century Black Ops helicopter. It is one of the best vehicles I own. I got it for a song. The seller had altered it slightly, and sold it to me at a real deal. I think I paid about $28.00 shipped. And I'm grateful, because I love it! This is part of my updated Adventure Team. I am careful to mix ethnic origins, as well as mix vintage-style figures with modern, to make a well-rounded team.
