After a Time Lord's final regeneration, he dies. There is no indication of an afterlife in episodes I've seen. He seems resigned to oblivion... almost. I love the light in this shot. It was a great day. VERY hot, and the light was right above. The camera was great at adjusting to various light conditions.

The Buffy shirt has a partial inner lininig that ends just at breast-level. This causes unsightly lines. I wish I had done some judicious cutting with scissors before this shoot. She looks -- lumpy. I think just about every third line by most companions is "What is it, Doctor", or "Doctor, what are you talking about?" In this case, she suspects she knows what he's talking about, but wants clarification.

In the excellent episode "Invasion of Time" we learn that all of the cumulative knowledge of past presidents of Gallifrey have their entire knowledge stored in the Matrix. The Doctor has already joined the Matrix, and I kind of hint that afterlife for a Time Lord exists within the Matrix itself.

The Doctor turns away, almost ashamed to face Tegan as he begins to tell her why he is here. Tegan has no idea what he's talking about here. She's not used to the Doctor admitting to mistakes.

Tegan should be getting the idea about now... This is a felt-covered plastic hat found quite readily at Michael's Craft Stores. It costs a buck or so, and is a perfect fit for some GI Joe heads. It's a little large for Buzz, but looks perfect as part of the Doctor's ensemble.

This GI Jane head sculpt is awesome! Depending on angle, she can represent many emotions. This one of bewildered curiosity... I get the impression the Doctor is admitting this little thing to himself for the first time here. The hat began as a cowboy hat. I removed the string hatband, and bent the brim down to straighten it. Then I crimped the peak at front.

Some may think it completely out of character for the Doctor to admit this. I don't think so. Not this Doctor. Not after centuries of torment.

The Doctor's fear, of course, was that changing history by saving Adric could cause some terrible things to happen.

Centuries, in fact. The Doctor drifted in space for a very long time.

This shot is taken near a dam on a river in Norwood, MA. The dam overflow can be seen behind the companion. I had planned to have a montage here, of the Doctor releasing various companions, but there was some humor intended, so I dropped the idea. Perhaps at a later date. This is a space helmet, made for a 10" figure, but it fits this GI Jane fairly well, so I opted to use it. For this companion I wanted something unusual. I came up with a female in a space suit, with samurai sword. This sheathed Katana comes from the Hasbro Japanese Soldier from 2000. In reality, Jane is wearing Leia's Hoth outfit from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, with a GI Joe yellow vest.

This is supposed to be deep within the TARDIS, lighted dimly to suit the Doctor's self-flagellating mood. This is Frank Sinatra's music stand (a Barbie figure) and has music on it, but the lighting makes it impossible to see. This is a Barbie violin, which came with clear string as bow hair, but I used a piece of dental floss which looks much more realistic. This is a Barbie violin, quite nicely detailed. It came in a carded set of other gear for about $5.00 The Doctor's solitude has, apparently, lasted quite some time. Through all of his remaining regenerations, presumably from his Paul McGann appearance.

This rattan chair I found at a yard sale. This was ideal, as in the first episode of the Key to Time, "The Ribos Operation", the White Guardian appears seated in a chair similar to this one. Rattan furniture is used inside the TARDIS also in "The Five Doctors"
