The 3D Veiled Virgin

As a teen I glimpsed a photo of a marble sculpture of Giovanni Strazza’s Veiled Virgin. It amazed me. It is a perfect sculptural illusion which depicts a sheer gossamer veil in hard solid stone.

There are several examples of this effect in the classical art world; a famous example residing in a convent in St. john’s, Newfoundland which as often happens in life, I never visited because I lived there and took it for granted. The sisters there are rightly intensely proud of their Veiled Virgin.

So this week I found a 3D model of Strazza’s Veiled Virgin on Turbosquid. I have never paid for a 3D model but the perfection of the artist’s work, modeling from photographic references, deserved money and I paid it.

I printed it on my Afinia H480 3D printer.

  1. friend can you please provide me this model, I know there are copyright issues etc. but I do not have the $ 59 now and I really like this sculpture and I do not want to save the file, just print it in 3d. if you can send me at least a gcode I would be grateful.

    My email is: [REDACTED]

    • I find it surprising that I still get people asking me to give out this model for free when I pointed out that it is the property of the artist, and can be bought directly from that artist. I even give a link to it, for convenience.

Please… if you like this model (and it is amazing!) read my whole post and the comments, and then go to Turbosquid and buy it.

    • I use the Afinia printers, and the integrated software. So the settings I used are .15mm, Big Hole fill, and most of the default settings. This is not helpful to people who use more normal slicers.
